What to Expect
Before Your Session
After booking, we’ll talk through the details of your milestone session and create a plan together. We’ll decide on the setting, outfit, and any simple birthday details or props you’d like to incorporate. You’re welcome to bring your own special items, or I can provide a few simple styling pieces to pull everything together.
For outdoor sessions, I’ll also help you choose a location from my favorite spots around Vacaville, Davis, Dixon, and Winters.
During Your Session
Your session will be relaxed, minimally styled, and guided around your little one’s personality. We’ll capture a mix of classic milestone portraits, playful moments, and all the little expressions and movements that make this stage so much fun. I’ll provide gentle direction while letting your child take the lead!
After Your Session
Your images will be carefully selected and professionally edited in my signature style. Photos will be delivered through a private online gallery, giving you access to download and preserve your portraits.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book a first birthday session?
The best time to book is a few months before your child’s birthday to ensure availability around your preferred date. Many families choose to schedule their session a few weeks before their child turns one so they have portraits ready to celebrate the milestone, but these sessions can be customized for any time.
What age is best for milestone photos?
There is no “perfect” age! Some families prefer portraits around 9–12 months when babies are sitting, exploring, and showing their emerging personality. Others choose to celebrate closer to their first birthday with a cake smash or milestone session.
Can we keep or child’s photos private?
Yes. Your family’s privacy is always respected. Image sharing is completely optional, and you’re welcome to decline the use of your photographs for my portfolio, website, or social media. Simply let me know your preference when booking.
What should my child wear?
Choose something comfortable that allows your child to move, explore, and feel like themselves. One peices like overalls or dresses are ideal! After booking, I’ll reach out to help you plan. I also offer a selection of12-month pieces.
Do you offer cake smash sessions?
Yes! Cake smash sessions can be incorporated into your Signature Milestone Session.
Where do sessions take place?
First Birthday Sessions can take place in the studio or outdoors, depending on the style you envision.
Can siblings or family be included?
Yes. Milestone sessions can include parents and siblings!
If you are looking for a larger family experience or extended family portraits, a Signature Family Session may be the better fit!
What if my child is shy or doesn’t sit still?
No need to worry. These sessions are child-led and designed around your little one’s personality. I’ll provide gentle direction while allowing time for your child to warm up, explore, and be themselves.
Do you provide props and styling?
Yes! After booking, we’ll talk through the look you’re envisioning. I can provide simple props and styling pieces, or you’re welcome to bring your own special items and birthday details.
